Someone still loves you Boris Yeltsin:
Though it seems trivial, there’s some merit to choosing a good band name. With myriad acts cluttering cyberspace, who’s going to check out a group based on the name "Fire" or "Spleen"?
So even if members of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, or SSLYBY, aren’t the biggest fans of their eye-catching name, there’s no doubt it has lured many listeners.
It’s often a name that initially seizes the attention of music lovers, but it’s the simple and infectious hooks that turn them into fans.
Last year, the indie-pop quartet from Springfield released its debut full-length album, "Broom." With its memorable, borderline twee melodies, "Broom" swept over bloggers and eventually caught the ears of Spin magazine editors, who declared SSLYBY a likely successor of The Shins.
Like The Shins, SSLYBY is capable of creating catchy hooks, but what distances SSLYBY’s work from other modern-day pop acts is the honesty injected into its songs. The foursome’s recipe for this successful, intimate pop is simple.
The band’s personal music has attracted notable supporters, including Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla. The trend-setting Web site Pitchforkmedia.com gave "Broom" a respectable rating. After receiving positive reviews and picking up a large number of fans, SSLYBY toured with Secretly Canadian Records’ rockers Catfish Haven.
